Which 2020 Kia models are IIHS Top Safety Picks?
While we often may enjoy the various bells and whistles and other creature comforts inside our vehicles, there is nothing more important than the vehicle keeping its occupants safe. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) puts vehicles available to consumers, including Kia models, to the test to see if they will hold up to their strict standards. Which 2020 Kia models are IIHS Top Safety Picks? They would be the Telluride, Sorento, Sportage, Soul, Stinger, and Forte when each is equipped with optional front crash prevention and specific headlights. Read ahead for more details!
What does it take to earn a Top Safety Pick rating from the IIHS?
The IIHS puts all vehicles through six crashworthiness evaluations, looking at vehicles for their responses to the following crash tests: small overlap front—driver side; small overlap front—passenger side; moderate overlap front; side; roof strength; head restraints and seats. In order to receive the Top Safety Pick honor, vehicles must receive a rating of “Good” in each test, which is the highest rating possible. They must also receive a rating of “Acceptable” or “Good” for the headlights and an “Advanced” or “Superior” rating when it comes to vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-pedestrian front crash prevention.
This recognition for these six models “reaffirms Kia’s continued effort to strive for safety improvement and advancement in every model we produce,” Michael Cole, president of Kia Motors America, said in a press release about the honors. Indeed, Kia has seen a more vigorous approach to safety these days, with such available Kia Drive Wise features as Smart Cruise Control, Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, Blind-Spot Collision Warning, Lane Keeping Assist, and Rear View Monitor with Parking Guidance helping to keep drivers and passengers safe in their new Kia models.
