The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) puts vehicles available to consumers, including Kia models, to the test to see if they will hold up to their strict standards. What does it take to earn a Top Safety Pick rating from the IIHS?
The IIHS puts all vehicles through six crashworthiness evaluations, looking at vehicles for their responses to the following crash tests: small overlap front—driver side; small overlap front—passenger side; moderate overlap front; side; roof strength; head restraints and seats. In order to receive the Top Safety Pick honor, vehicles must receive a rating of “Good” in each test, which is the highest rating possible. They must also receive a rating of “Acceptable” or “Good” for the headlights and an “Advanced” or “Superior” rating when it comes to vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-pedestrian front crash prevention.
